Custom Designed Baseplate for 100HP Motor and Pump

By SysTec Team•May 20, 2024
Pump assembled on baseplate before installation

See how our team designed and fabricated a custom baseplate for a 100HP motor and pump. Our innovative solution included integrated lifting lugs for safe transport of the 4700+ pound assembly.

When tasked with creating a custom-built baseplate for a 100HP motor and pump, our team faced a unique challenge. The customer specified that the system needed to be mobile, as it would be used in the field. However, with the combined weight of the motor and pump exceeding 4700 pounds, mobility was a complex issue to solve. Fortunately, our experienced pump technician, Jon, came up with an innovative solution to ensure safe and balanced lifting during transport.

Jon suggested incorporating lifting lugs into the side walls of the baseplate for added strength and even weight distribution. To achieve this, we used a precision water jet to cut out the side panels of the baseplate, shaping them to include the lifting lugs. This approach not only increased the structural integrity but also enhanced the overall balance when the baseplate was hoisted.

After the baseplate was welded together, we used a mag-drill to drill and tap holes for securing the motor and pump. Once the pump and motor were mounted on the baseplate, the coupling was installed, and the assembly was ready for shipment. The customer was extremely pleased with the final product, praising the design as an excellent solution to what seemed like an insurmountable challenge. This project showcased our team's problem-solving abilities and commitment to delivering tailored solutions for our customers.
